What’s Cooler Than Cool? These 4 Tips to Help Your AC This Summer

Best ductless air conditioner

The heat is on this summer. With temperatures easily reaching into the nineties, you’re certainly making the most of your HVAC system. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re making the most of your energy bill.

Keeping the AC on all summer may seem like a good idea, but the air conditioning repair companies out there will tell you otherwise. To save your AC from breaking down and to save a little bit of money in these sticky months, here are four tips to help you out.

Keep it Low at Night

When the sun goes down, your AC usage should go down. It’s typically cooler at night, which means you shouldn’t need to have the HVAC systems doing all of that work 24/7. Not only that, but you’re typically sleeping at night, which means you’re not as aware of a slightly higher temperature.

Use Window Units

If there’s one room in your home that you spend the most time in, try using a window unit to cool it. This is generally a good idea for small homes that don’t have much space to cool down, but if you close the door in any bedroom with a window unit on, it’ll cool down quickly.

Cover Your Windows

Sunlight is nice in the morning, but the afternoon quickly turns the golden light into pure heat. If that light is coming into your home all day, it’s going to put extra strain on your HVAC system, and on your energy bill. A good pair of light-blocking curtains can go a long way, especially in rooms with large windows.

Service Your Unit

To avoid the necessity of HVAC repair later on, it’s important to keep up with regular maintenance. Your HVAC system should be inspected and tuned up once before and after each season of use. A good rule of thumb is to perform routine maintenance once in the spring and once in the fall. If you have any additional concerns, there’s nothing wrong with an extra inspection!

Keeping your house cool is important during the summer, but so is saving a little bit of money. Not only will these tips keep a few extra dollars in your pocket, they’ll add years to the life of your AC unit.
