There are two primary sources of the 100 gallons of water each American uses a day at home, which are private reservoirs and public water supplies. Still, the average daily household water consumption is 350 gallons.

It’s safe to say that people use a lot of water. But the question is, how safe are this water and it’s sources? As stipulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act, every institution that deals with supplying the public with water, must meet the drinking water standards approved by Environmental Protection Agency, acronymized as EPA. As a private well owner, you are tasked to maintain the quality of your well, and so proper filtration is vital for ensuring good water condition at all times.

The importance of filtration can’t be emphasised further, but looking at the numbers, of Americans who use a home water treatment unit, the need for one pops up. It is estimated that 4 out 10 Americans use a home water treatment system. After years of modern science, effective filtration will not only prevent contamination of water-borne illnesses, but it is also useful in fighting microbes that hide bacteria such as Salmonella. The solution to all your water problems is a pool or a well’s filtration system. Here, the idea is to keep this system clean through a model called, backwashing.

Backwashing filter systems are the most efficient mechanisms developed to filter water. In fact, it’s so interesting that it can clean and renews itself with the same system by changing the flow of water. As water penetrates through the mineral tank where granular media are, it is reversed within the filter and collects the trapped contaminants through a hose joined to the pump.

This backwash filter system can be used as home water purification systems for water pools and wells. It’s a water treatment unit that uses a granular substance to treat and clean any impurities inside water. These granular objects are referred to as the filter media, and some examples include sand, garnet, carbon, greensand, zeolite and anthracite.

Granular media are located in the mineral tank of the backwashing filter system. In water purification, medium works to offer a different solution from the other.

  • Birm:Under perfect conditions, this type of purification agent is used to reduce the amount of iron and manganese in the system. Due to it’s lightweight is becomes so easy to backwash. But for this medium to remove iron, a pH of at least 6.8 is needed.
  • Centaur Catalytic Carbon:This is the perfect granular media to remove chlorine, sulfide or chloramine. Centaur also popular in treating city water systems.
  • Multi-Media:This one consists of several layers of sand, anthracite, and garnet and it’s widely used to reduce sediments and oxidized iron.
  • Micro Z and Chem Sob:These two are sediment media used to reduce particles in water. Naturally, they are zeolite deposits used in backwashing filter systems.
  • Water filtration is important, so is the water purification system, which has to be regularly observed to ensure no build up of impurities on the sand bed. If you observe channelling of water, then, there’s must be a problem with the water flow at the backwash filter system.
